Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #72

-
Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. Sadly we lost Florence Henderson this week. She was amazing to all her fans who loved her as much as she loved them. She was also a very responsive signer over the years both in person and TTM she took the time to sign for anyone who asked and will be greatly missed. So I see a lot of TTM websites talking about collecting autographs TTM for free. Sure you can get autographs TTM from celebs that normally charge at conventions but don't charge TTM (some still charge TTM ) while others don't charge a cent to sign but this doesn't necessarily mean its free. TTM collectors can spend thousands of dollars a year trying to acquire autographs. Everything from stamps and envelopes to printing pictures and paper costs money. Since we send 4x6 pictures it costs us a total of $1.80 per TTM attempt here in the US ($2.50 for overseas attempts). That covers sending two pictures, the fan letter, the outgoing stamped envelope and our SASE. We started out sending 8x10's but it was costing to much for something that's never a sure thing so we went with the smaller pictures. It was costing just under $5 to print an 8x10 compared to $0.32 for a 4x6 plus add the extra expenses for larger envelopes, backing boards and more postage for larger photos and it all starts adding up. By using smaller pictures we can use cheaper smaller sized envelopes and less postage per attempt and since we're not dealers 4x6's are fine for us. So TTM autograph collecting isn't free but for what you can possibly get in return its money well spent in my opinion. Now for this weeks successes. Due to the holliday this week it was a slow week for us but Monday brought a great return. After several attempts over the years we finally received a success from Bruce Dern. He signed both pictures we sent and it took just over seven months for them to return. Monday also brought the standard rejection letter from Stephen King after Winter tried him a couple weeks ago with a nice long letter but it didn't do her any good. Its what we expect but she still had to try. Saturday brought one last return for the week when we received both pictures back signed by Craig T. Nelson. Great success and it took just over seven months to return. That's it for this week. Have a great weekend and I'll be back next week with more TTM autographs and addresses.

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #71

-
Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. I hope everyone had a great graphing week. I'm always searching the web looking for autographs, addresses, news, tips and pretty much anything autograph related. I run across a lot of discussions on the topic of sharing addresses. Now if you're reading this you probably know how I feel about the subject. Im always happy to help an actual fan or collector. Years ago when I first started collecting I was getting my autographs at the occasional In Person graphing opportunities I had as a kid. We had a great shopping mall that would bring in celebs or astronauts to sign autographs and then later in life I started purchasing them at conventions or going to book signings. Then I discovered TTM collecting. This enabled me to attempt to get the autographs of people from all around the world that I'd never have the opportunity to meet and try In person. At first I wasted alot of stamps and time. Then one day I stumbled across others online willing to help me by sharing some knowledge and addresses that pointed me in the right direction. That's why I started this blog to share our autographs and help other collectors that are as passionate about this amazing hobby as we are. Unfortunately a lot out there in TTM land think that the sharing of addresses is hurting the hobby. They (the ones against sharing yet are constantly using addresses other have shared lol) believe that when the address is shared it will get abused or over used and flooded with requests that will cause the address to no longer work or in extreme cases causing the celebs to stop signing all together. Now to an extent this can be true and it does happen but not because of us fans and true collectors even though there's alot more of us now sending fan mail then there was ten or twenty years ago. It can happen when people abuse the address by sending large numbers of items multiple times for the purpose of selling the autographs. Some dealers send using five or more different names and return addresses to increase inventory and Iv even ran across dealers who write using fake charities as a front for obtaining autographs. It's this kind of abuse that turns some off sharing and can cause addresses to stop working. That's the reason I can't always share an address ( usually because IV been asked not to share) but I mostly share unless its a time sensitive Via Venue or a unpublished home address that someone's asked me not to share. Sometimes people put alot of time and effort into a hard to get signer and don't share because of all the hard work they put into the success and I totally understand that. Even with out people sharing it just takes a little research and you can find addresses for about anyone it just takes a little time and effort and for this reason I see no harm in sharing. In most case's the addresses are already out there and on some sites that get way more views than my blog. It's the sharing of information and ideas between collectors that's helped me grow my amazing collection and I'm thankful for those who do share and I'll continue to share for as long as I possibly can and as long as people don't abuse the addresses I share. Now on to this weeks successes. Monday brought a great return when Winter finally received a signed picture from legendary musician Rod Stewart. This was our third attempt in three years so she's super happy that this one actually returned and It took just under five months for hers to return. Tuesday brought two more great returns. First after one year and three months I finally received my return from Rod Stewart back. I guess he's finally catching up with his fan mail because Iv seen several returns from him this week. I'd given up on mine and Winter rewrote him and hers returned Monday so it was very cool that we both received ours back this week. To finish off the day we received both pictures back signed from the amazing Patrick Stewart. I'm a super huge fan of his and I'm overjoyed to finally add this outstanding actor to our collection. "Dune" is one of my favorite books and films and of course you know how I feel about"Star Trek" so today as they say was a good day and it took just over a month for this great Via Venue reply from the UK. Wednesday brought an amazing return from horror legend Doug Bradley who signed both pictures we sent and it took just over six months for this super cool Via Venue success. To finish off the week Saturday brought one last return. After just over a month we received both pictures back signed by Christine Elise. That's it for this week. I hope everyone has a great weekend and a good Thanksgiving and I'll be back next Saturday with more TTM autographs and tested addresses.

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #70

-
Welcome back to another weekly TTM success post. Well everyone this crazy election season is finally over. I know alot of people are disappointed with the results. You know who else is probably also very disappointed? The autograph collectors that paid over inflated prices for someone that hadn't even been elected yet. Alot went out and payed way more for the two candidates autographs betting on a huge payoff when one finally won. I ran across pictures signed by both Bill and Hillary Clinton from $1000 to $3000 because people anticipated her to win. The autographs of both Hillary and Donald jumped up in price during the election but now that its all over with the prices will finally start to return to normal. While Trumps autograph has increased since the win it will also go back down to a more reasonable price after the excitement dies down. I feel sorry for the people who bought the books Trump was selling to raise campaign funds, if they didn't read the fine print they payed top $ for an facsimile autopen signature. So be careful if you're in the market for Trump autographs to add to your collection because some of those books and some of his secretarial TTM autographs are now going to hit the market being passed off as authentic. So if you just need the new President's autograph I recommend waiting until the prices drops back to normal and do your homework before you buy. Now on to this weeks successes. Monday brought one return. A month ago Winter rewrote Lorraine Warren after her first return came back badly smudged. Winter explained what happened and sent an index card instead of a picture this time. The index card didn't come back but instead she sent a small signed slip of paper. Tuesday brought another great addition to our Walking Dead collection when Winter received both pictures back signed by Katelyn Nacon and it took just about six months to return. Thursday brought a super cool return from Wendy Schaal. We love "American Dad" so its great to get her back. We sent two pictures and they both returned signed with a nice note on the back of one and in just under two months. I was worried because about the time we sent to her some others started to return marked RTS from the address we used so luckily we just made it before something changed. To finish off this week Saturday brought an amazing return when just after a month we received our card back signed by football legend Peyton Manning. That's it for this week. Have a great weekend and ill be back next week with more TTM autographs and addresses.

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #69

-

Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. So this week I was looking at autographs on EBay when I started noticing something that worried me. I ran across several people selling photos of celebs signing autographs to be used as proof photos for what I'm guessing is so that the fake autograph dealers can purchase them to offer "Photo Proof" for the horrible fake IP graphs they're selling. Why else would someone pay $15-20 for a picture of a celeb signing autographs. They even use the word Proof Photo in the description and some even in the title. This worries me because alot of dealers now offer proof photos as a form of COA to prove that the autographs real. Most of these are just pictures of the celebs signing stuff and they don't show the item being sold actually being signed. Other do offer exact photo or video proof that shows the actual item getting signed. I like those a little better because you can compare the item and the autograph with the photo to see if everything matches up but I usually try to avoid the autographs with generic proof photos that don't show the item or the autograph being signed. I'm my opinion proof photos are just as worthless as a COA so don't just rely on them an assume the autographs real because it has a COA or proof photo. Do your research by comparing to as many authentic examplars that you can find. I even do that with autographs that come with COA's from those reputable 3rd party authenticators even they can make mistakes. So be careful before you purchase autographs don't rush, take your time and do your homework. Now on to this weeks TTM successes. Monday started the week off with an amazing five returns. First after just under two months we received all three pictures back signed from Earl Holliman. He signed our two and one for my dad. Next after only two weeks we received both pictures back signed from Bozo the Clown Mr. Joey D'Auria and he even signed our cardboard we put in to keep the pictures from bending. Next it was an amazing Star Trek TOS mail day because the last three all came from actors from the original series. After just under two months we received both pictures and an index card signed by Geoffrey Binney. After that Michael Barrier signed both Star Trek pictures we sent and only took nine days to return. To finish off this amazing day we received all three pictures back signed from Bruce Mars and with a quick seven days to return. Thursday brought another three great returns. First after just under seven months we received one of the two pictures we sent to Loretta Swit back signed. Next after less than a week we received both pictures back signed by Ronn Carroll who played the cop in "Friday the 13th". To finish off the day an amazing return from Bill Randolph. He signed our two pictures and sent three signed 8x10's and a nice signed note and it took him about seven months to reply. Friday brought two more returns. First Winter received her picture back signed with an autopen from Paul Ryan. He also sent her a letter answering a couple questions she asked and he actually signed the letter so that makes up for the autopen picture and only took two weeks to return. To finish off the day I received a signed bookplate from Condoleezza Rice after requesting one from her contact page and it only took about two months to get it. To finish off this super TTM week Winter received a very cool via venue success from Daniel Tosh. She sent a couple of 4x6 pictures but he sent her a signed 8x10. We both love "Tosh.0" so Winters was excited when she opened this one up and it only took nine days to return. That's it for this amazing TTM week. Have a great weekend and ill be back next week with more TTM autographs and addresses.
